Before the redesign, VisitMonaco was divided into three separate sites: one dedicated to the general public (tourism), another for MICE professionals (Meetings, Incentives, Conferencing, Exhibitions), and a third for the press. Each had its own interface, its own graphic universe, its own editorial structure... but there was no link between them. The user experience was fragmented and not very engaging. The contributors themselves were finding it difficult to structure and maintain their content across platforms.
Supported by the Tourism and Convention Authority (DTC), VisitMonaco is Monaco's official national and international showcase. The challenge was to design a portal capable of addressing individual visitors as well as tourism professionals and journalists. A high-performance, immersive, accessible and multilingual site, in keeping with the upmarket image that Monaco wishes to convey.
The main aim of the redesign was to merge the three existing sites into a single portal. The new site had to offer differentiated content tailored to each user profile: tourists looking for inspiration, industry professionals looking for practical information, journalists looking for official information.
Each user now has access to targeted content, thanks to specific homepages and editorial blocks designed for their needs. A real paradigm shift, where the user experience becomes central and personalised.
To simplify content management and streamline internal processes, we set up a shared back office using Ibexa DXP v3. Thanks to this unified structure, contributors can manage the entire portal from a single interface, while retaining differentiated rights according to their roles.
The use of a custom page builder gives DTC teams great flexibility when creating or modifying pages. Integrated predefined blocks ensure graphic consistency throughout the site. Teams gain greater autonomy. Publications are more consistent.
Development was carried out using an agile method, organised into sprints. Every three weeks, a monitoring meeting enabled the team to review the backlog, make the necessary functional arbitrations and define the tasks to come for the next sprint.
At the same time, a steering committee (COPIL) bringing together the technical and business stakeholders was organised every two months. This provided an opportunity to take stock of past achievements, validate the future direction of the project and arbitrate strategic decisions.
The shared Jira tool was used to break down and monitor tasks into tickets and define a schedule. This approach enabled the stakeholders to be involved throughout the project, and to guarantee a high standard for each deliverable.

We developed a bespoke interactive map enabling visitors to find at a glance the places to visit, restaurants, hotels, activities and events not to be missed, according to the Principality's districts.
Designed with Leaflet and interfaced with ArcGIS, this dynamic map offers a filterable navigation experience. Users can display the types of places they are interested in, locate an establishment or cross-reference information about a point of interest with other nearby services.
The interactive map can be used to access detailed information on restaurants, museums, hotels and events. It acts as a visual gateway to the different content on the site, making for an engaging experience. Exploring Monaco has never been so intuitive.
To guarantee the reliability of the information and reduce the updating workload for contributors, the content pages are connected to external sources via the Principality's Data Lake API.
Data such as timetables, locations and descriptions are automatically retrieved and updated for each event concerned.
To make browsing more personalised, a favourites system has been integrated into the site. At any time, users can add a place, activity, event or restaurant to their personal list with a simple click. This feature allows them to build up a selection of the content that interests them as they visit the site.
Designed as a browsing companion, the favourites system can be accessed at any time via the interface, without the need to create an account, to guarantee ease of use and fluidity.
One of the most innovative features of the VisitMonaco website is the trip planning tool. Designed as a personal assistant, it guides each user through the organisation of their trip by proposing a fully personalised programme, day by day.
After answering a series of questions about the length and period of the trip, the traveller's profile (solo, couple, family, etc.), the desired pace and the type of experiences sought, the user accesses an interactive interface. At the end of the questionnaire, a swipe system is used to validate or reject Monaco's top activities. A gamified approach that makes the journey fun.
Once the preferences have been recorded, a personalised selection of activities is proposed, entirely tailored to the traveller's wishes. The planner then automatically generates a detailed itinerary in line with the answers provided:
This module required a great deal of work to model the data, the user experience and to ensure that the proposals were coherent and feasible.
With a view to international visibility, the VisitMonaco portal needed to offer a multilingual experience in 10 different languages. To meet this requirement, we integrated InLexIA, an artificial intelligence-assisted machine translation module developed by Inforca.
Connected to Ibexa DXP, InLexIA dynamically translates all the pages on the site, while retaining the structure and layout of the original content.
The module facilitates the work of editorial teams:
The VisitMonaco site was built using Ibexa, a DXP that offers technical power, editorial flexibility and scalability over time. The DSN teams saw a number of advantages in the tool's back office. It enables them to manage the sheer volume of content on the three sites, to handle different user roles, and to publish in several languages, all with excellent technical performance.
Thanks to its advanced interfacing capabilities, Ibexa has made it possible to connect the visitmonaco.mc site to third-party systems:
From the earliest stages of the project, particular attention was paid to the technical structure of the blocks and pages, as well as to international referencing. The redesign included an extensive content migration plan, to avoid any loss of positioning due to the merger of the three former sites.
Redirects, tags, metadata, URLs and internal meshes were carefully handled, in coordination with the SEO teams. The site is built on a foundation optimised for loading times, mobile compatibility and compliance with accessibility standards.
To embody the elegance and refinement of Monaco as a destination, we opted for a bespoke design, outside the government design system.
Each graphic component has been designed to convey a strong visual identity: stylish typography, immersive and contrasting visuals and animations. The sites have been developed using a mobile-first approach, so that browsing comfort can be adapted to all screen formats.
This unique artistic direction helps to promote the Principality's upmarket image. It has enabled this project to ensure clarity and fluidity throughout all of the itineraries.
As soon as they arrive on the site, users are immersed in the world of Monaco thanks to an elegant parallax effect accompanied by a "day/night" toggle. This introduction lays the foundations for an inspiring experience on the site. But the originality of the project lies in the fact that each target group has its own home page:
These three homepages have been designed to offer personalised browsing, with a dynamic feed of the latest content and easy access to themes according to profile.
